ABOUT

So Matsukawa is a Japanese conductor born on August 23, 1992 in Tokyo.

After studying in Japan and beginning his career as a conductor, since 2022 he lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
In 2024 November, February and 2023 November, he served as an assistant at the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (DSO), where Robin Ticciati serves as music director, and conducted the offstage ensemble at the Philharmonie Berlin at the “G. Mahler 2nd Symphony Project” and the concert-style performance of “Tristan and Isolde”.
Also, in 2024 September he served him at London Philharmonic Orchestra Japan tour.

In June 2024, he got 2nd prize in the CONSTANTIN SILVESTRI International Conducting Competition, 2nd Edition in Bucharest, Romania, organized by the Silvestri Foundation and the Bucharest National Opera, and took place under the high patronage of the President of Romania and the Romanian Ministry of Culture.
And same month, he got 1st prize in the Brass Band Conductors’ Association’s (BBCA) conducting Competition2024 organized by Brass Band Conductors’ Association, sponsored by YAMAHA in Manchester, England. And conducted Foden’s Band at the award concert at Regent-hall, London.

In September of the same year, he was selected as one of 17 out of 531 applicants and 111 participants in 1st International Ferenc Fricsay Conducting Competition in Hungary.
Also in December, he was selected as 7 semi-finalist out of 132 applicants in 3rd International Orchestra Conducting Competition “University of Almería” in Spain.
In the 2020 Yamada Sadao Music Foundation Conductor Audition in Japan, he received the Yamada Sadao Music Foundation Special Selection(1st prize) and Music Award and conducted Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra at the Laureate Concert.
